NHESS - Special IssueAssessment and forecasting of disaster risk and proactive planning of extreme hydrometeorological events Editor(s): A. Loukas, M.-C. Llasat, U. Ulbrich, and A. MugnaiMore Information The purpose of the proposed special issue is to publish selected papers, after peer review, presented in the session NH1.7/AS4.10 of the General Assembly of EGU 2010 titled “Extreme events induced by extreme weather and climate change: Evaluation and forecasting of disaster risk and proactive planning”. This is a rather successful session in which interdisciplinary research is presented. This session considers extreme events that lead to disastrous hazards induced by severe weather and climate change. The papers, presented in the session, cover a wide range of hydro-meteorological hazard research, such as studies of specific extreme storms, floods, droughts, extreme temperatures, impact of climate change on extreme hydro-meteorological events, methodological and modeling methods of extreme events, hazard prevention and assessment of hydro-meteorological hazard risk, proactive planning focusing to damage prevention and damage reduction and insurance issues.
